Have you ever thought about becoming a lecturer?
Welcome to the Become a lecturer website, which contains information, videos and vacancy links about becoming a lecturer, tutor or assessor – essentially a teacher in Further Education. If you have experience in industry and are thinking about a change of career, why not consider working as a teacher in a post-16 Further Education college or with an independent training provider (ITP) in Essex, East Sussex and Kent.
The range of knowledge and skills taught within further education is enormous, covering dozens of industries and professions. Further education is an exciting sector providing a critical role in terms of workforce development, employment, career progression, skills enhancement and collaboration with business, including through apprenticeships. This requires a skilled, experienced and diverse teaching community. For more on the varied teaching roles in further education check our FAQs page.
There are peaks and troughs for FE college and independent training provider vacancies throughout the year with the highest rate of vacancies being promoted over the spring and summer periods. There’s more on this in our FAQs pages. However, there are currently and generally more vacancies for certain industries and professions than others. In particular, there is demand for lecturers in Engineering, Construction, Digital Technologies, plus Health and Care professions. Vacancies will vary from one area to another, so please check with your local college via the links on the Contact page of this site.
For further information about making a career change you may also find help at the National Careers Service website. If you are based elsewhere in the country, this website is generally applicable to your colleges and training providers, but you will need to look at their websites for more information.
